Waste Sampling & Techniques

Environmental and waste sampling is more than filling a bottle and sending it to a laboratory. The quality—and defensibility—of your data begins long before the sample is collected.

This application-focused course walks environmental professionals through the sampling process from planning through final data review, with an emphasis on the decisions and field practices that can directly affect sample integrity and analytical results. Participants will learn how to establish the purpose of a sampling event, select an appropriate sampling design, develop and prepare for a sampling plan, conduct field sampling, properly document and maintain chain of custody, prepare samples for shipment or delivery, and apply quality assurance and quality control practices.

Throughout the course, learners explore the details that can make the difference between reliable, defensible data and a compromised sampling event—including field documentation, sample collection techniques, preservation, contamination prevention, blanks and duplicates, laboratory coordination, custody controls, and review of data quality.

Designed for environmental professionals who need to understand not only how to collect a sample, but how to plan, document, execute, and evaluate a sampling event with confidence. Because when environmental decisions depend on the results, the integrity of the data depends on how the sample was collected.
